Emergency Funds Not Available

Emergency Funds not available for private landowners and it’s unlikely that they will be forthcoming. Despite the tremendous damage that some local landowners have suffered as a result of heavy rainfall it appears that there will be no help coming from the State or Federal government.

I spoke with Dan Larkin of the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services today and he said that despite the fact that Humboldt has been included in Jerry Brown’s emergency declaration neither local roads nor private citizens will see any financial assistance anytime soon.

It would have to be declared a Federal Disaster in order for the possibility of Individual Assistance. The State has asked for Federal assistance which has not come through so far. Even if it does it will likely only fund State projects such as the 101 Slide.

County Roads are not receiving any State money either and according to Dan Larkin, chances for getting assistance for County Roads repair are slim at best. This is all a reflection of the current budget crisis at all levels of Government.

A word to the wise: document all damage just in case the situation changes. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news – Estelle
