FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : DEAN CREEK SLIDE UPDATE
Eureka – Caltrans announced today that crews continue to make progress on the slide on Route 101 north of Garberville that closed the highway in April. Geotechnical drilling is now complete and crews are continuing to perform drainage work, installing horizontal drains into the hillside to help remove subsurface water. Work has begun on a project design to further stabilize the hillside and restore the highway to the pre-existing four lanes. Earthwork is anticipated to resume in the middle of May and the roadway is expected to be fully restored before winter.
Currently, the highway is open to one lane in each direction 24 hours a day. Motorists should anticipate minor traffic slowdowns.
All work is weather dependent. For the most current road information on all State highways, please call 1-800-427-7623 (1-800-GAS-ROAD) or visit www.dot.ca.gov.
