Hoopa man killed in three-vehicle accident

A three vehicle accident north of Weott resulted in the death of a Hoopa man and minor to major injuries to four other people, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said Brian Kenneth Warnow, 22, of Fortuna, was driving a 2006 Dodge Durango northbound on U.S. Highway 101, approximately one-half mile north of Weott at about 4 p.m. Thursday when he allowed his vehicle to go across the center divider and into southbound lanes, sideswiping a 1991 Toyota pickup driven by 31-year-old Shaun Ross Miller of Fortuna.
The CHP said the Dodge continued in a northbound direction against oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by 36-year-old Lucinda Venus Miller of Hoopa. The CHP said the Dodge then continued in a northwest direction, traveled over the guardrail and came to rest west of U.S. Highway 101.
The CHP said 22-year-old Joaquin Roy Miller of Hoopa, who was a passenger in the front seat of the Chevrolet, was declared dead at the scene. Melbourne Duane Miller, 56, of Hoopa, who was seated in the back, was transported by air ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital with major injuries. He was later transported to UC Davis Medical Center in critical condition. Warnow and Lucinda Miller were transported by ground ambulance to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna with minor to moderate injuries. Shaun Ross Miller suffered minor injuries.
The CHP did not list injuries for 30-year-old Nicole Rachell Miller of
Fortuna, a passenger in the Toyota. The CHP said the north and south lanes of U.S. Highway 101 were closed briefly. The CHP said alcohol or drug impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the collision and the Garberville CHP is investigating.
