Island Mountain Road Fire Contained to 4 Acres

Island Mountain Road Fire Contained to 4 acres. Fire was located in grassland just south of the Heartwood Institute. One structure was threatened but saved. Fire crews will remain on site for another 2 hours conducting mop-up operations.
Calfire responded with 4 Engines, 1 Helicopter, 2 Air Tankers, 1 Air Attack and 1 CalFire Crew. Paloverde Volunteer firefighters also assisted. According to Incident Commander, Marty Hobbs, Garberville Battalion Chief, people from the public also responded at first before firefighters got on scene. He praised them for working so hard and for stepping aside when the professionals came on scene. “That’s the way it’s supposed to work”, he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation and is still unknown.- Estelle

Investigators Find cause of Island mountain Fire: According to Incident Commander Marty Hobbs (Garberville Battalion Chief) the Island Mountain (Wood Incident) was caused by a faulty catalytic converter on a vehicle. Pieces of the catalytic converter were found around the point of origin. The faulty vehicle was not identified. – Estelle
